GLMF 2008, without E Muzeki

The Great Lakes Medieval Faire starts in less than five months, and I'm really looking forward to it. There is an unofficial GLMF message board that has the latest news.

Unfortunately, the fabulous group E Muzeki [E Muzeki web site] [E Muzeki video] has apparently disbanded. If the message boards are accurate, the two successor groups to E Muzeki are Elysium, and Wine and Alchemy. Elysium is supposed to be at the 2008 GLMF.

Great Lakes Medieval Faire again

Too much is never enough, so we're back at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire again. Silent Lion was there, but we missed seeing them play. We heard more E Muzeki though [E Muzeki sound clips], and had more time to browse among the shops.

Great Lakes Medieval Faire

We went on our annual trip to the Great Lakes Medieval Faire [GLMF official web site] [a fan's web site] today. It was a great time, as usual. Johnny Phoenix (who now has an official web site that doesn't really show what he does) was up to crazy antics, this time bringing a gun that shot marshmallows at the audience before his fire eating and bullwhip tricks. He ends the day with a fire walk. A band new to us that we really enjoyed was E Muzeki [E Muzeki home page][E Muzeki MySpace page]. And of course, we saw jousting.

Two torches, one idiot, and Silent Lion

Our family went on our annual trip to the Great Lakes Medieval Faire [GLMF official web site] [a fan's web site] today. It rained all day, but we purchased our tickets in advance, so we were committed. The jousters canceled their event because they said the heavy rain and mud posed a danger to the horses (they didn't express concern for their own safety. Go figure.) Two of the entertainers whose shows were not canceled were fantastic. Johnny Phoenix [fan site] [2005 fan photos] [2006 fan photos], whose "danger comedy" act consisted of fire eating (hence his strained battlecry: "Two torches! One idiot!"), bullwhipping, and fire walking, is an excellent showman who had overcome personal adversity in his life. Silent Lion is "a duo playing a unique blend of medieval, celtic, bluegrass, spanish and original acoustic music." I've been listening to them since the mid-nineties when they were known as Sassafras. Check out "The Gamer's Song". Unfortunately, the amazing juggling act and perennial favorite Bardic Wind, now known as Barely Balanced, were not scheduled to appear this year.
